Ormonde Business School has secured an exclusive agreement with International Medicine Studies, whereby it is the sole provider, in Ireland, of their PreMed Preparation Course, leading towards the entrance examinations of a portfolio of European Universities.
Who are International Medicine Studies?
International Medical Services [IMS] are a leading international educational consortium that has built relationships, on behalf of international students, with a portfolio of European Universities.
The universities that comprise this portfolio will only accept international students on its programmes through the channel of IMS.
Once you have been successful in your PreMed Examination, IMS will manage your application to your chosen university and will provide ongoing support services to you, during the years that you are studying for your degree.
See their website [www.medstudy.org]
What is the PreMed Course at Ormonde Business School?
The PreMed course at Ormonde Business School, which is run in both Dublin and Tullamore, prepares you for the Entrance Examinations for the following European Universities:
- University of Veterinary Medicine, Kosice
- Pavol Jozef Safarik University, Kosice
- University of Veterinary Science, Brno
- Warsaw University of Life Sciences
The course will revise your knowledge in Biology and Chemistry, at a level equivalent to Leaving Certificate.
On the final day of the course, you will sit a Common Entrance Exam, recognised by the above Universities, for entrance to their degree programmes in Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry.
The course is run as a 15-day intensive course, either in December/Janaury & February, or in July. There are two sets of exams run every year: the next entrance exam dates are 29 March 2009 or 01 August 2009. You will know your examination results in the month following the day that you sit
What Can I Do, if I Pass the PreMed Course?
When you successfully navigate the PreMed course and pass your examination, we will then assist you in applying to join a degree programme leading to one of the following qualifications:
- Doctor of General Medicine
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
- Doctor of Dental Medicine
You will usually know if you’ve been accepted by this university within a period of four to six weeks.
From the moment of your acceptance on one of the above degree programmes, you are on route to a career of your dreams.
I Suppose I Need Massive Leaving Cert Points to Get on the PreMed Course?
No, surprisingly you don’t. Anyone who has passed six subjects at Leaving Certificate, including two honours, is eligible for the above programmes, if they have also passed the entrance examination.
Are These Degrees Recognised in Ireland?
Absolutely.
As degrees from a University in the European Union, they are recognised, for professional purposes, in Ireland, by:
- The Medical Council of Ireland
- The General Medical Council [England & Wales]
- The Veterinary Council of Ireland
- The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
- Irish Dental Association
But, I Don’t Understand Polish!
That’s OK!
All of the programmes for International Students are taught through the medium of English. English language textbooks are also available in the university libraries.
However, as part of your course at university, there is tuition in Polish or Slovak, to help you integrate with a community beyond the body of international students.
How Long Are The University Programmes?
The programmes are 6 years long, though students with relevant BSc degrees maybe exempted from 1 or 2 years of some programmes.
Fees
The fee for the PreMed course is €2700 and the universities charge a combined application/examination fee of €165
The university course fees are €6500pa for Veterinary Science and €8000pa for Medicine.
